Rob Helfenbein is Associate Professor of Curriculum Studies at Indiana University-IUPUI and Associate Director of the Center for Urban and Multicultural Education (CUME). He earned his Ph.D. and B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A former middle and high school social studies teacher, Dr. Helfenbein offers courses in Middle School Methods, Teaching Secondary Social Studies, and graduate level courses in curriculum theory and social foundations of education. Dr. Helfenbein has published and edited numerous research articles and book chapters about teacher education and contemporary education analysis in urban contexts and recently co-edited Unsettling Beliefs: Teaching Theory to Teachers (2008/Information Age). His current research interests include urban education, cultural studies of education, and the impact of globalization on the lived experience of schools.
